Celebrity make up artist, Lorena Simpson, strives to share skincare solutions
The dangers of poor skincare habits are a large problem and major contributor to the skin problems many young people strive to avoid. Celebrity make up artist, Lorena Simpson, wants to help end the skincare struggle by sharing her skincare and make up expertise.
“It’s important to take care of the skin beneath the makeup; that’s the first, number one step when you’re applying makeup,” Simpson said.
Simpson says ensuring that the face is clean and moisturized is one of the best ways to combat many problems such as breakouts and too oily, or too dry, skin.
“A lot of people don’t know that they should be washing their face at least twice a day, or they don’t wash their face at all,” Simpson said.
Aside from the brief speech about proper skincare techniques, Simpson also shared a makeup lesson. As she applied makeup, she explained the steps she was taking and answered questions about the process.
“I think makeup shouldn’t cover anything. It should only be used to enhance what you already have, not completely hide it.” Simpson said.
Simpson has been working as a makeup artist for over twenty years, taking care of women and men as well as working with many famous celebrities including Michelle Obama, Stevie Wonder, Oprah Winfrey, and Earvin “Magic” Johnson.
“I’ve been traveling non-stop for the last several years for work and working with celebrity events everywhere, but I think I’m ready to slow it down and maybe start doing more of these lessons.” Simpson said.
Simpson may be a celebrity make up artist, but one place she has to go especially for her eye lashes is Lash Moi Salon, where the seminar was held before an intimate audience of about eight.
“Yeah, as a makeup artist I knew what was going on, but I also learned some stuff. I asked a lot of questions just because I knew some other people might not know maybe why she was doing something a certain way,” said Kailyn, audience member and receptionist at Lash Moi.
Juan, another audience member and Lash Moi receptionist, said he was still a little unsure. “It’s new to me, I think I’m going to need to practice some more and learn,” he said.
Lash Moi is a salon specializing in semi-permanent eye lash extensions, with other services including cosmetic tattoos, eye brow waxing and tinting, spray tanning, make up application, and more. Lash Moi has two locations; one in Bowie, MD, and one in Crofton, MD.
